Manjaro a bad decision?

Translations: de

For my first forays into the Linux world, I had chosen the Manjaro distribution. In the meantime I have found out that this was not the best idea.

Why I had chosen Manjaro Linux is beyond me. It looked good and at first glance it seemed good. Installation was easy and a lot of things went smoothly right out of the box.

So actually a perfect distribution for a newcomer? After getting more into it, I decided to turn my back on Manjaro.

The reasons are quite simple and can be read in more detail here: https://manjarno.snorlax.sh/

I first thought that a two week delay for updates would be safer. But in retrospect, the assumption is idiotic, as it also delays security updates. Not only that, but incompatibilities can occur.

Okay, so another distribution, or which one? A Debian/Ubuntu based one like Pop!_OS or an Arch based gaming distribution like Garuda Linux? Ubuntu arouses dislikes in me, for no particular reason. So I threw Garuda on the notebook. I had it on the computer for a full 15 minutes. Yes, I'm a gamer. But that's too much gaming design. I tend to be a bit more discreet.

Then the idea came to me: Why take an offshoot of Arch Linux instead of directly Arch Linux itself? The only disadvantage: The installation is a bit more complicated, plus Arch is not an all-in-one solution. Everything is shipped with default settings and you have to do the tuning to each other yourself.

In the end it sounds more complicated than it was. Install a theme here, reconfigure the trackpad there, and you're done. I switched to the Zen kernel for this, sounded good. I don't know if it will work in the end. But it works.

After two hours of configuring and installing, everything is set up. I'll report back if anything changes.
